Tough Times Never Last

Tough Times Never Last

Robert H. Schuller once said in his book with the same title, Tough times never last, but tough people do! This is a short story about a young lady who through her walks found an answer to her new year`s resolutions!

I was taking an evening stroll as I always do on weekends to stretch my back in the hope that it does not crack before I turn 50, when I saw a sign post reading “Fitness Boot camp.”
A sign from heaven. I had been praying (I kid you not!) for a place where I could do Zumba. I love to dance and if I was to come back in the next life, among other things, I would be a dance choreographer like Parris Goebel, Nabaggala Lilian Maximilian, and other dope dancers.

Zumba was one of the activities that the boot camp offered. I stopped, took down the number and went on with my walk. Weeks later while attending a friend’s wedding, I reached out to the person on the other side….“Hi, I saw your number on a banner. What are your rates and how does the fitness boot camp ran?”

The person on the other side quickly responded with answers made for me. He patiently answered all my 1000 questions. And also asked me questions: “what is your goal for joining the boot camp? How many kgs do you weigh? Are you sick or struggling with any ailment? I answered them all and was directed on where to go when I was ready to start.

During Week 1, I had the mother of all body aches. Turning in bed was a chore. Muscles ached and stubbornly did not respond to any deep heat or muscle pain killers.
On day three I wanted so badly not to go for training since we were running up a HILL!! But I had paid cash and my money was not to be wasted in this economy.
I went and it was painful. I wanted to weep like a child as I ran up the hill. I hated that hill for being steep. I envied all the others for running up like she was a long time mistress.

On day four my body suddenly felt good. The aches were rescinding. I had a good day at work. Friday was event better but my body begged to be spared any more work outs.

Week two has been a piece of cake. My arms are in pain due to the weight lifting but I feel better. Mentally and emotionally I am in top shape.

I am going to week three of my fitness journey!! I have finally achieved my fitness goals in 2023. Thrilled to have kept the momentum when I could have given up. I might become your fitness motivation speaker in a few months, maybe in 2024! We will not rush the new course. LOL!

Go out and traverse those tough situations that will come your way.
Do not give up.

Happy new week!!
