Each time I read a book, I want to talk about it. I will do my research about it, the author, watch interviews, and everything about that particular book. Hence the birth of the Meet Your Author Series which aims at spotlighting and celebrating authors on the continent mostly and the diaspora.
On 1st August 2021, I launched the series in conversation with Botho Lejowa, a Motswana writer, author of Meetings With Death and Leah: A Seer`s Legend. In the Instagram live (IGlive), we had a delicious conversation on her new book, Meetings With Death.
Meetings With Death is a story about Eana, a girl with the ability to see one of the oldest supernatural beings-Death. Because of this ability, she is hunted by a powerful shaman who wields dark magic. He is jealous and hungry for the kind of power and ability that Eana possesses. Eana however is clueless about the kind of power she has until her best friend gives her the ask your mother line in a heated argument. She embarks on a self-discovery journey where she learns secrets about her family and heritage.
The novel moves between the supernatural realm and the very day streets of Southern Africa: Botswana, Zimbabwe, and South Africa grounding the story and paying homage to African culture.
Meetings with Death is a rousing read with beautiful language, symbolism, and meaningful themes.
